The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a new initiative aimed at encouraging illegal aliens to self-deport through the CBP Home App. Those who choose this route will receive forgiveness for any civil fines or penalties associated with failing to depart the United States. Currently, individuals in violation can face fines nearing $1,000 per day if they do not leave after a final deportation order. The DHS has issued over 9,000 fine notices amounting to nearly $3 billion.
In an effort to make the process more accessible, the DHS has simplified the CBP Home Mobile App by removing certain steps. "If you are here illegally, use the CBP Home App to take control of your departure and receive financial support to return home," stated Secretary Kristi Noem. She added that failure to self-deport could result in fines, arrest, deportation, and a permanent ban from returning.
In addition to fine forgiveness, those who use the app will benefit from cost-free travel and a $1,000 exit bonus once their return is confirmed via the app. Self-deportation is promoted as a safe and cost-effective method for leaving the U.S., potentially allowing individuals to return legally in the future.
The CBP Home App is available for free on Apple and Android devices through Apple's App Store and Google Play or directly from DHS.gov. More information can be found at DHS.gov/CBPhome.
