KfW IPEX-Bank is contributing EUR 140 million in financing for a wind energy project in Canada. The bank serves as co-lead arranger alongside National Bank of Canada, the Desjardins Group, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation’s (SMBC) Canada Branch. This initiative involves constructing and operating the Pohénégamook-Picard-Saint-Antonin-Wolastokuk 1 (PPAW1) Energy Centre, a 350 MW onshore wind farm located in Québec, Canada. Danish manufacturer Vestas will supply the total of 56 wind turbines, with commissioning expected by the end of 2026.

The project is sponsored by Invenergy, North America's largest privately held developer and operator of clean energy solutions, along with Alliance de l'énergie de l'Est, which consists of over 200 municipalities in eastern Québec. Both sponsors hold equal stakes in the project. Hydro-Québec has secured a long-term contract to purchase the clean energy generated.

Dr Velibor Marjanovic, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank stated: “We finance such projects out of deep conviction.” He further noted that “Canada, and particularly Québec, is a significant market for renewable energy,” highlighting their positive experiences with seven financed wind farms over thirteen years. Dr Marjanovic emphasized their commitment to supporting economic and societal transformation worldwide.
