Sun Life U.S., a prominent group benefits provider, has announced a partnership with Wellthy, a care concierge platform. This collaboration aims to support life insurance members and their families in dealing with the challenges of bereavement and end-of-life care. The initiative is part of Sun Life's efforts to enhance access to care and simplify health and benefits processes.
Wellthy offers personalized guidance and resources for various care needs. Through this partnership, Sun Life members will gain access to Wellthy's services for managing care, planning ahead, and coping with grief.
"Life insurance is more than just a death benefit – we are supporting people from the moment they start planning for their family's future, through the many emotional and logistical challenges associated with losing a loved one," stated Sheila Sokolski, vice president of product strategy at Sun Life U.S. "By including Wellthy's services in our life insurance offering, we are helping our members and their families – regardless of which person carries the policy – through some of life's hardest experiences."
The lack of support during grief can negatively affect employee health and lead to costs for employers due to lost productivity and turnover. A survey revealed that 30% of Wellthy users avoided taking leave or quitting their jobs thanks to the support they received.
"The end-of-life process can be overwhelming—not just for families, but for the individual themselves," said Lindsay Jurist-Rosner, CEO of Wellthy. "People want to ensure their loved ones are cared for while also navigating a maze of legal, financial, and emotional challenges. We're honored to bring compassionate, expert support to Sun Life's members during one of life's most difficult moments."
Wellthy provides access to an experienced team including coordinators from fields such as social work and nursing. Families receive tailored plans covering aspects like future planning and managing loss.
An accessible digital portal from Wellthy offers tools for organizing care plans and connecting with peer groups or directly messaging care teams. It includes features like viewing medical appointments within a family circle.
Starting January 1, 2026, Sun Life clients will have access to Wellthy as part of basic or voluntary group life insurance across most U.S states.
