The U.S. Consulate General in Recife and the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding for technical cooperation in criminal investigation. The agreement, reaffirmed on June 5, emphasizes the partnership between the U.S. and Brazil in sharing information related to transnational organized crime, human trafficking, and fraudulent travel documents.

The signing ceremony took place at the U.S. Consulate General’s headquarters in Recife, with U.S. Consul General May Baptista and Attorney General Elaine Cardoso de Matos Novais Teixeira of MPRN formalizing the agreement. Assistant Attaché for Overseas Investigations John Lydic and Deputy Attorney General Glaucio Pinto Garcia were also present.

U.S. Consul General May Baptista stated that "this partnership contributes to the security of the United States by combating crimes and frauds that impact U.S. and Brazilian citizens." She highlighted that their joint work respects confidentiality laws and regulations.

This collaboration has been ongoing since 2018, extending beyond criminal investigations to include training aimed at enhancing public security in both nations. Attorney General Elaine Teixeira expressed her satisfaction with renewing this cooperation, noting its importance for exchanging information, improving practices, and addressing transnational crime challenges.
