Vilnius is set to host the NATO Summit on July 11-12, 2023. According to Lithuanian government officials, this event will be the largest ever held in Lithuania. The Vilnius municipal government anticipates up to 3,000 governmental visitors from 50 official delegations and around 2,000 representatives from NGOs and media outlets. LITEXPO has been designated as the primary location for the summit.

During the summit, flights will be prohibited in Vilnius airspace from noon on July 11 until 2:00 p.m. on July 12. Anticipate disruptions and delays in air traffic at both Vilnius and Kaunas airports due to increased traffic during this period. From July 7 to July 13, restrictions will apply to small aircraft, balloons, and drones across Lithuania.

Lithuania will reinstate internal Schengen border controls at checkpoints with Latvia and Poland, as well as at airports and seaports from 8:00 a.m. on July 7 until 8:00 a.m. on July 13. U.S. citizens are advised to carry their passport copies and proof of immigration status during this time.

Traffic restrictions have been announced by the Vilnius municipal government for several areas including Old Town, near LITEXPO and Vilnius Airport between July 7-13. Only vehicles with special permits will have access to restricted areas; all other vehicles are barred entry.

Residents are encouraged to walk or use public transport during this period while teleworking when possible is also recommended by local authorities. Public transport in Vilnius will be free from July 10-13.

Accommodation availability in Vilnius is expected to be extremely limited due to visiting delegations; travelers should confirm bookings directly with hotels.
