The Lithuanian government and military have announced civil defense drills as part of the "Thunderstorm 2024" military exercises. These exercises are scheduled from May 1-9, 2024, and are described as long-planned, regular, and routine.
Drills will be conducted in the Virsuliskes and Paneriai neighborhoods of Vilnius and the Palemonas neighborhood of Kaunas. The activities are set to occur between 10:00 p.m. on May 7 and 5:00 a.m. on May 8, 2024. According to the government, these drills will include a simulated curfew, vehicle checkpoints, document checks, and possibly simulated sound, smoke, and concussive grenades.
U.S. citizens in Lithuania are advised to carry proper identification at all times during this period. This includes a U.S. passport with valid proof of immigration status. Additionally, individuals should monitor local media for updates regarding the situation.
