The United States is set to host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, bringing together some of the world's top soccer teams for matches scheduled from June 14 to July 13. The event will feature prominent clubs such as Chelsea and Real Madrid, drawing millions of fans across the country. This tournament serves as a precursor to the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host with Canada and Mexico.
These two major soccer events are expected to attract significant investment due to the growing popularity of soccer in the U.S. A report from For Soccer highlighted a 57% increase in new American soccer fans over a recent five-year period, with approximately 14 million Americans participating in outdoor recreational soccer.
Historically, previous FIFA tournaments held in the U.S., such as the Men's World Cup in 1994 and Women's World Cup in 1999, have fueled interest in soccer nationwide. Between 1990 and 2017, there was a sevenfold increase in Americans identifying soccer as their favorite sport.
This year's Club World Cup includes fan-favorite teams from around the globe, including Chelsea and Manchester City from the UK, Real Madrid from Spain, and Juventus from Italy — which features American players Weston McKennie and Tim Weah. Additionally, two U.S.-based teams, Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami led by Lionel Messi, will participate.
With plans for 63 matches across 11 cities, organizers anticipate attendance figures reaching up to 3.7 million fans. Philadelphia is slated to host a quarterfinal match on July 4th.
A joint study by FIFA and the World Trade Organization projects that this year's Club World Cup could support up to 105,000 jobs within the U.S., contributing $17.1 billion economically. Looking ahead to next year’s Men's World Cup tournament co-hosted by North America nations could generate an economic impact of $30.5 billion while creating approximately185 thousand jobs domestically.
President Trump expressed enthusiasm about these upcoming events during remarks made on May6: “This will be once-in-a-lifetime opportunity showcase beauty greatness America," he stated."We can’t wait welcome soccer fans all over globe."
