Guatemala's National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology, and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) has reported a significant increase in volcanic activity from the Fuego volcano. As of June 4, the volcano is emitting ash, rocks, and hot gases. Lava flows are currently extending 600 meters down the Santa Teresa ravine. Evacuations have commenced for residents in Panimache and El Porvenir within San Pedro Yepocapa municipality, with further evacuations possible.

Ash fall is affecting Acatenango, San Pedro Yepocapa, and Chimaltenango municipalities. Despite these developments, operations at La Aurora International Airport remain unaffected. However, RN-14 has been closed to ensure safety and facilitate potential evacuations.

U.S. citizens are advised to remain vigilant for travel delays and monitor local conditions closely. The U.S. Embassy recommends avoiding affected areas and following local guidance on restricted zones. Travelers should keep informed through local media and official websites such as CONRED and INSIVUMEH for updates on weather, road conditions, and hazards.

Individuals in impacted regions should consider reducing exposure to ash by staying indoors when possible or using masks if outside. Travel documents should be kept up-to-date and easily accessible in case of emergency evacuations facilitated by commercial airlines coordinated with the U.S. Department of State.

Residents are encouraged to prepare an emergency supply kit containing essential items like bottled water, medications, non-perishable food items, a battery-powered radio, vital documents including passports stored in a waterproof container.
