The United States Government has donated 24 portable x-ray machines to Indonesia, aiming to enhance the country's healthcare services. The handover took place on June 3 in Jakarta, with Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Heather C. Merritt presenting the equipment to Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
"This donation reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and Indonesia," stated CDA Merritt. "Our partnership with the Ministry of Health has strengthened Indonesia’s TB diagnosis, care, and prevention nationwide. We commend and support the Ministry of Health’s commitment to build a more resilient health system."
Valued at approximately $2 million, these portable x-ray machines are intended for use by frontline healthcare workers to perform essential diagnostic procedures in areas lacking access to medical imaging. The machines will be allocated across 24 district hospitals in four provinces most affected by tuberculosis (TB), aiding Indonesia's efforts to eradicate the disease.
This contribution follows a previous U.S. government donation of 145,000 doses of TB preventive treatment drugs worth about $1.5 million in 2024.
The collaboration between the United States and Indonesia spans multiple sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and disaster management. The recent donation exemplifies the strong bilateral relationship between both countries.
