Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Senior Advisor for Africa Massad Boulos held a meeting with ambassadors from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in Washington, DC. The discussions focused on the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
Ambassadors Yousef Al Otaiba of the UAE, Reema bint Bandar Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, and Motaz Zahran of Egypt participated in the talks. Deputy Secretary Landau highlighted that the conflict in Sudan poses a threat to shared regional interests and has resulted in a humanitarian crisis.
Landau emphasized that "the United States does not believe the conflict is amenable to a military solution," urging efforts to encourage the conflicting parties to cease hostilities and pursue a negotiated settlement. He also reiterated the U.S. commitment to collaborating with these nations, collectively known as the Quad, to address and resolve the crisis.
The meeting concluded with discussions on potential next steps for addressing the situation in Sudan.
