The MTN Bushfire Festival is set to take place from May 30 to June 1, 2025, at House on Fire, located between Mahlanya and Malkerns. This three-day event is expected to draw thousands of attendees, leading to increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area. As a result, border crossings with South Africa and Mozambique may face significant delays, particularly after the festival concludes.

Attendees are advised to practice good personal security measures to avoid becoming victims of opportunistic crime or experiencing medical emergencies. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at the festival, several guidelines have been recommended.

While attending Bushfire, securing valuables is crucial to prevent theft. The festival operates as a cashless event, so carrying excess currency should be avoided. Attendees should ensure their cellphones have credit on a network that provides service in the area and keep an emergency phone list handy in case their phone is stolen. Vehicles should be locked with valuable items out of sight, and camping gear should be secured when not in use.

To mitigate cellphone theft risks, it is suggested that attendees back up their devices, turn off Bluetooth, activate location services like "Find my Phone" or Google's "Find My Device," use Face ID for unlocking devices instead of numeric codes, and record their IMEI numbers for assistance in locating lost or stolen phones.

When driving during the festival period, extra vigilance is advised due to potential drunk drivers and disoriented tourists. Using a designated driver is recommended to avoid drinking and driving. Drivers should keep doors locked, windows up, seatbelts fastened, and remain aware of their surroundings without distractions. If stopping is necessary, it should only be done in well-lit areas or public locations.
