The United States has expressed its anticipation of a productive relationship with Annalena Baerbock, the newly elected President of the UN General Assembly for its eightieth session. In remarks made on behalf of the U.S., gratitude was extended to Philemon Yang for his service as the outgoing President. "Mr. President, you have modeled the circumspection and restraint needed to guide this body through challenging debates. We thank you."

As Baerbock steps into her new role, she does so at a pivotal moment marked by the eightieth anniversary of the United Nations. This milestone is seen as an opportunity to evaluate and enhance the organization's effectiveness in international peace and security.

The United States has aligned itself with Baerbock's campaign vision statement, which emphasized adherence to the UN Charter and called for increased focus on reform. "In that effort, the President-elect has a partner in the United States," it was stated.

A call was made for a more effective General Assembly, urging it to abandon unproductive activities and concentrate on pressing global issues such as ending armed conflict, advancing peace, combating antisemitism, and organizational reform. The emphasis was placed on setting aside politics and personal biases to advance common goals outlined in the Charter.

"We look forward to working with UN Member States and the President-elect to return the UN to its purposes and principles under the UN Charter," concluded the remarks from the U.S.
