The Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that operations at Lima's airport will transition to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport in Callao on June 1, 2025. This change may lead to increased congestion around the airport, and U.S. citizens are advised to allow extra time for check-in, immigration, and security procedures. The official website of the airport should be consulted for more information.

The U.S. Embassy in Lima advises travelers to remain vigilant due to reports of robberies occurring on routes to and from the airport, where assailants break vehicle windows while stopped in traffic. Travelers are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and secure their belongings at all times.

Exit fines for overstaying in Peru must now be paid online through the Banco de la Nación platform before arriving at the airport. Failure to pay these fines in advance may result in being unable to board flights. Travelers should consult with the Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones for details on any applicable fines, as this information cannot be provided by the U.S. Embassy.

Travelers are urged to review their travel plans, contact airlines or travel companies for assistance, monitor local media for updates, and maintain a low profile.

For further assistance or information, contact details for both the U.S. Embassy in Lima and the U.S. Consular Agency in Cusco have been provided along with emergency contact numbers for Consular Affairs.

Additionally, it is noted that a new version of the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) was launched by the Department of State on September 16, 2024. To continue receiving alerts, travelers should re-enroll at step.state.gov.
