The U.S. Embassy in San Salvador has issued a weather alert for El Salvador following predictions from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) regarding the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. According to NOAA, there is an expectation of above-normal hurricane activity this year in the Atlantic basin.
NOAA's forecast for the current hurricane season, which extends from June 1 to November 30, anticipates between 13 and 19 total storms. Out of these, it is predicted that 6 to 10 could develop into hurricanes, with potentially 3 to 5 reaching major hurricane status. The rainy season poses additional risks of flooding and landslides.
Residents are advised to track updates from El Salvador’s Civil Protection and Ministry of Environment through their websites and social media channels @PROCIVILSV and @MedioAmbienteSV.
