Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK is set to begin production of the Toyota GR Corolla starting in 2026. This announcement aligns with Toyota's broader European strategy, which is overseen by Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA (TME). TME manages wholesale sales and marketing for Toyota, GR (Gazoo Racing), and Lexus vehicles, as well as parts and accessories. It also oversees Toyota’s manufacturing and engineering operations across Europe.
The company employs over 25,000 people directly and has invested more than EUR 11 billion in the region since 1990. Toyota operates eight manufacturing plants located in Portugal, the UK, France, Poland, Czech Republic, and Turkey. As of now, approximately 14.7 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles are on European roads. These vehicles are supported by a network comprising 28 National Marketing and Sales Companies along with around 2,800 retail sales outlets spread across 53 countries including EU nations, the UK, EFTA countries, Israel, Turkey, and other Eastern European regions.
In the year 2024 alone, TME sold a total of 1,217,132 vehicles in Europe securing a market share of 7.1%. More details can be found on their website at www.toyota-europe.com.
Toyota emphasizes that "when people are free to move, anything is possible." The company aims to promote "Mobility for All" by creating safer and more connected mobility solutions that are inclusive and sustainable. This mission supports their goal of producing “Happiness for All”. In Europe specifically, TME has launched the KINTO mobility brand offering various services across 20 countries while expanding its business-to-business sales involving zero-emission fuel cell products.
In line with contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Toyota is committed to achieving carbon neutrality throughout its European operations. Historically recognized as a leader in CO2 reduction within Europe, TME targets a complete CO2 reduction for all new vehicles in Western Europe by the year 2035. They continue to provide customers with an array of electrified powertrains including hybrid options alongside plug-in hybrid models as well as battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles.
