The World Bank's Extractives team has introduced a new video series titled "Mining Forward," which delves into the evolving landscape of the mining industry. This series aims to address key challenges, opportunities, and shifts that are shaping the future of mining.

"Mining Forward" features candid discussions with experts, examining changes, successes, and requirements across various aspects such as mineral value chains, infrastructure, finance, governance, and environmental and social development priorities. Each episode is dedicated to a specific theme like jobs, investment, or sustainability while building on previous discussions to maintain fresh and focused content.

The inaugural episode titled "Mining as a Development Driver: Linking Resources to Results" premiered during the 2025 World Bank Spring Meetings. It featured Michael Stanley, Global Lead for Mining at the World Bank, in conversation with Robert Schlotterer, Global Head of the Extractives Global Unit. The discussion highlighted how strategic approaches to mining can expand energy access through shared infrastructure, create higher-value tech-enabled jobs, drive economic transformation via local value chains, promote sustainability and community inclusion, and de-risk investments through smart financing.
