The embassies of Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the Delegation of the European Union, have expressed strong agreement with an assessment regarding South Sudan's deteriorating political and security situation. The statement from these entities echoes concerns raised by the Chairman of the Revitalized Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission.
The joint statement highlights a significant decline in conditions not observed since 2018. It emphasizes an urgent call for President Kiir to lift the house arrest of First Vice President Machar. Additionally, it urges all party leaders to return to dialogue aimed at finding a political solution.
The embassies and delegation also condemned remarks made on April 26 by a senior transitional government minister that categorized counties as "friendly" or "hostile." They reiterated their appeal for all party leaders to cease using violence as a means of political competition and to avoid further unilateral actions.
