The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan has announced a further reduction in its personnel in Juba due to ongoing security threats. The embassy advises that South Sudan remains a level 4 "do not travel" country, urging U.S. citizens currently there to consider leaving through commercial means while they are available.
For those who decide to stay, the embassy recommends preparing contingency plans for emergencies and being ready to shelter in place if conditions worsen. It also reminds U.S. citizens to ensure their passports, as well as those of family members, are valid for more than six months. Passport renewal appointments at the U.S. Embassy Juba can be scheduled online.
Assistance is available from the U.S. Embassy Juba via phone numbers +211-91-210-5188 and +211-91-210-5107 (after hours), or by email at ACSJuba@state.gov. Additional information can be accessed through the State Department's Consular Affairs contact numbers 888-407-4747 or 202-501-4444.
The embassy encourages enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for receiving alerts and following updates on Facebook and X.
