March 27, 2025 – The Embassies of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and the Delegation of the European Union have issued a joint statement expressing serious concern regarding reports that First Vice President Machar has been placed under house arrest.
The embassies urge President Kiir to reverse this action to prevent further escalation. They emphasize that First Vice President Machar's role in the government is established under Article 1.7.2 of the 2018 Peace Agreement (the R-ARCSS). Additionally, they call on President Kiir and all leaders with control or influence over armed groups to order an immediate ceasefire.
The statement stresses "the urgent need to engage without delay in direct dialogue" and urges leaders from all parties to demonstrate their commitment to peace through sincere actions.
