Candace A. Bond Ambassador | U.S. Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago

The U.S. Embassy has announced that representatives from the Regional Federal Benefits Unit will be visiting Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The visit is scheduled for June 24 to June 26, 2025, at the U.S. Embassy located at 15 Queen’s Park West.

Services related to U.S. Social Security and other federal benefits will be offered during this visit. These services include the Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire (FEQ), application for Social Security benefits, and application for a Social Security Number card.

Appointments are required for all services and can be scheduled online. The embassy has specified that attendees must bring original documents along with photocopies and valid unexpired identification with a photocopy.

Certain items such as bags, wallets, opaque envelopes, lighters, weapons, and electronic devices are not permitted inside the embassy. Attendees may use clear plastic folders for their documents to facilitate security screening.

For those submitting the Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire SSA 7162/7161 form for 2024, appointments should be scheduled in advance. The "proof of life" forms were sent out this year to individuals whose Social Security Numbers end with digits between 00 through 49 and who have registered mailing addresses in Trinidad and Tobago. If these forms were not returned by January 2025, benefits were suspended in February 2025.

Applicants seeking Social Security benefits need to provide an original and a copy of their birth certificate and U.S. passport. Those applying for auxiliary or survivor's benefits must also present marriage and death certificates if applicable.

To apply for a Social Security Number card, applicants must bring an original and a copy of their birth certificate, U.S. passport, and completed form SS-5FS.

Further details about the services offered by the Regional Federal Benefits Unit can be found on their website.
