The AMAZÔNIA exhibition, featuring photographs by Sebastião Salgado, is set to make its German debut at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne. The exhibition, which has already attracted nearly two million visitors globally, will be open from October 29, 2025, to March 15, 2026.

Zurich Insurance is the main global partner for this exhibition tour and is facilitating the Cologne event as part of its celebration of 150 years in Germany. Additional sponsors include DEG and KfW Development Bank, along with TASCHEN Publishing House.

The exhibition showcases approximately 200 black-and-white photographs that capture the diverse landscapes of the Amazon rainforest and portray the lives of its indigenous peoples. It also features interviews with these individuals discussing their connection to their environment and experiences amid ongoing ecological threats. The display is enhanced by an immersive installation accompanied by a soundtrack created by French musician Jean-Michel Jarre.

DEG has been involved in Brazil since the mid-1960s. While Brazil's economy shows growth, challenges such as income inequality and environmental degradation persist. By sponsoring the AMAZÔNIA exhibition, DEG aims to highlight climate change issues affecting developing regions while reinforcing its cultural and civic engagement.
