William Duncan, Ambassador | U.S. Embassy in El Salvador

Representatives from the Social Security Administration's regional office in San Jose, Costa Rica, will visit San Salvador from June 9 to June 13, 2025. This visit is aimed at providing services for beneficiaries or individuals with inquiries about U.S. Social Security and other federal benefits. Services include accepting applications for social security cards or benefits and enrollment or cancellation of Medicare Part B.

Appointments are required for these services and can be scheduled through a designated link. The services will be available at the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador, located on Blvd Santa Elena Gate, across from Super Selectos/La Prensa Grafica. Operating hours are set from June 9 to June 12 between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm, and on June 13 from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.

Each family member must book an individual appointment if they seek assistance regarding social security benefits. Applicants should bring originals and legible copies of all necessary documents.

For those applying for Social Security Benefits, it is important to bring a birth certificate and valid passport. If applying for auxiliary or survivor’s benefits, marriage and/or death certificates are also required.

To apply for a Social Security Number Card, applicants need to complete form SS-5FS and present a valid passport along with either a Certificate of Birth Abroad or an original birth certificate registered before age five.

For changes of address related to Social Security, a valid passport and another form of ID are needed.

Medicare Part B enrollment requires completion and signing of CMS-40B form while cancellation necessitates the CMS-1763 form.
