The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a warning regarding an increase in social media accounts impersonating embassy officials. The embassy advises users to verify the authenticity of any account claiming to represent them, urging people to avoid engaging with or relying on information from fake profiles.

For accurate and current information, the embassy recommends visiting their official website at https://lk.usembassy.gov/ and following only verified social media accounts. These include Ambassador Julie Chung's official profile on X (@USAmbSL) and the U.S. Embassy Sri Lanka's profiles on X (@USEmbSL), Instagram (@USEmbSL), and Facebook (http://facebook.com/Colombo.USEmbassy).

The public is specifically encouraged to follow Ambassador Chung’s official profile on X for reliable updates about the United States in Sri Lanka. It is noted that she does not have profiles on Facebook, Instagram, or Telegram, indicating that any such profiles are fake.

Additionally, it is emphasized that U.S. Embassy Consular officials will not contact individuals via social media platforms or direct messaging concerning U.S. visa services.
