The U.S. Embassy in Doha and the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) have inaugurated the American Corner at CCQ, marking a notable development in the U.S.-Qatar relationship. This facility is the sole American Corner in Qatar and aims to enhance cultural and educational engagement with local youth, established opinion leaders, and the general public.
The launch event included speeches from U.S. Ambassador Timmy Davis and CCQ President Dr. Khalid al-Horr, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The American Corner's focus areas include education, American history and values, English-language learning, entrepreneurship, and alumni engagement. It seeks to empower Qatari youth while strengthening academic and cultural ties between the two nations.
Dr. Khalid Al-Horr expressed his pride in this cultural partnership during the ceremony: “We believe that culture is a cornerstone in shaping individuals and building the future. The American Corner, Qatar’s first of its kind, is more than just a new academic space; it is a significant addition to the college’s knowledge resources.” He added that it would offer students opportunities to deepen intercultural understanding and expand their skills through various activities.
The creation of the American Corner is part of the 2024 U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue initiatives stemming from an MOU signed in March 2024. It represents both countries' dedication to fostering mutual understanding, education, and community involvement.
U.S. Ambassador Timmy Davis remarked on this milestone: “Today marks a significant milestone in our shared journey to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the United States and Qatar." He emphasized that "the American Corner at CCQ is more than just a room—it’s a vibrant space where students and the wider community can come together to learn, connect, and grow."
