Brazilian students have achieved significant recognition at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025, which took place from May 10 to 16 in Columbus, Ohio. The event is noted as the largest international science and engineering fair for pre-university students, featuring over 1,600 finalists from around 60 countries competing for nearly $9 million in prizes.
The Brazilian delegation consisted of 28 students. Fifteen were selected through the Brazilian Science and Engineering Fair (Febrace) held at the University of São Paulo, with their travel sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil. An additional thirteen participants were chosen by the International Science and Technology Fair (Mostratec) in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul.
The awards were distributed during two ceremonies: the Grand Awards Ceremony, recognizing top projects across 22 thematic categories, and the Special Awards Ceremony, which offered prizes from research institutions, universities, and international scientific organizations. Febrace-selected students won four awards while Mostratec participants secured one award.
Awarded projects included "Watreat: biopolymeric membrane for water treatment" by Isabelle de Sousa Battocchio and Miguel Ribeiro da Silva from E.E.M.T.I. Marconi Coelho Reis; "Sustainware: sustainable alternative for ceramic tableware production" by Victoria Zimmer Gomes from IFRS – Feliz Campus; "Manganese and tumoral metallomics: a new therapeutic pathway for invasive tumors" by Carolina de Araujo Pereira da Silva from IFRJ – Rio de Janeiro Campus; "Artificial Skin for Cell Regeneration and Burn Treatment" by Sofia Mota Nunes from Santa Teresinha School; and "Antimicrobial potential of the hydroalcoholic extract of Myracrodruon urundeuva (aroeira)" by Gabriel Lopes Fernandes Filho, Otávio da Costa Nogueira, and Rita Izabely Lopes da Costa from E.E. Prof. Abel Freire Coelho.
