Effective May 12, 2025, Syria's outstanding debt of approximately $15.5 million to the International Development Association (IDA) has been cleared. The payment was made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar. This development reinstates Syria's eligibility for new operations with IDA, provided it complies with World Bank operational policies.

As a result of this payment, there are no remaining balances on IDA credits owed by Syria.

The IDA is a branch of the World Bank Group that offers zero- or low-interest loans and grants to impoverished countries for projects aimed at economic growth, resilience building, and improving living conditions for poor populations globally.
