The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby has announced two upcoming consular outreach events in the Eastern Highlands province. The first event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at noon in Ukarumpa, followed by a second event on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Lapilo.
During these visits, a consular officer will be available to provide services including applications for U.S. passports and renewals, applications for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and notarial services on a case-by-case basis.
U.S. citizens affiliated with the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Ukarumpa or New Tribes Mission (NTM Lapilo Center) are advised to contact their HR manager for appointment scheduling and details. Those not associated with SIL or NTM should email ConsularPortMoresby@state.gov to schedule an appointment and include the type of service required along with names and dates of birth of all individuals needing services. It is recommended that emails be sent by noon on Friday, May 23.
Individuals requiring notarial services must also email to schedule an appointment by this deadline as walk-ins will not be accepted.
Applicants are encouraged to review all necessary information ahead of time to ensure preparedness for the services offered. They may also send applications and copies of documents via email for preliminary review.
For fee payments related to passport fees and CRBAs, online payment is mandatory, with applicants required to submit proof of payment alongside their application.
For adult passport renewals using Form DS-82, applicants must meet specific criteria regarding their previous passport's issuance date and condition. First-time adult passport applicants or those using Form DS-11 have different requirements based on factors such as age at issuance or condition of their previous passport.
Consular Reports of Birth Abroad require online payment as part of the application process; however, when applying simultaneously for a passport, only the CRBA fee should be paid upfront.
Document return arrangements must be made independently by applicants through either personal pickup in Port Moresby or via an international courier service like DHL. A clear plan for document return is essential following processing completion by the embassy.
The embassy provides detailed instructions on fees and documentation requirements for various scenarios including first-time adult passports, minor renewals, combined CRBA and first passports applications, as well as replacements for lost or damaged passports.
Finally, any inquiries regarding notarial services or replacement passports should be directed via email before the visit to confirm availability during these outreach events.
