Samsung Electronics has announced the acquisition of FläktGroup, a global leader in HVAC solutions, for €1.5 billion from Triton, a European investment firm. This strategic move aims to bolster Samsung's presence in the rapidly growing global applied HVAC market.

TM Roh, Acting Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, commented on the acquisition: “Through the acquisition of FläktGroup, an applied HVAC specialist, Samsung Electronics has laid the foundation to become a leader in the global HVAC business, offering a full range of solutions to our customers.” He emphasized that this step is part of Samsung's strategy to invest in high-growth sectors.

FläktGroup is headquartered in Herne, Germany and boasts over 100 years of expertise in HVAC technology and design. The company provides reliable and efficient systems for various facilities including data centers, museums, airports, and hospitals. Their products are known for reducing energy consumption and aiding clients in achieving lower carbon footprints.

The company has gained significant recognition within its industry. Last year it received the DCS Cooling Innovation of the Year Award for its cutting-edge technologies. Trevor Young, CEO of FläktGroup expressed optimism about joining forces with Samsung: “We are extremely pleased that FläktGroup has become a part of Samsung Electronics... Now, with Samsung Electronics’ global business foundation and investment, we expect to further accelerate our growth.”

The HVAC sector is expected to continue expanding due to increasing demand for innovative solutions that enhance air quality and manage temperature efficiently. Market research forecasts suggest substantial growth in both the applied HVAC market and data center cooling market by 2030.

Samsung plans to integrate its building integration control solution (b.IoT) with FläktGroup’s control solution (FläktEdge), aiming to offer comprehensive HVAC and building energy control systems. This will potentially expand their service and maintenance offerings.

In recent years, Samsung has focused on strengthening its position within the North American market through joint ventures like one formed with Lennox International Inc., enhancing their distribution capabilities.

The transaction between Samsung Electronics and Triton is expected to be finalized within 2025.
