Over the past two days, U.S. officials have engaged in discussions with Indian and Pakistani leaders to broker a ceasefire between the two nations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Vice President Vance and he have been in talks with senior officials from both countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.
Secretary Rubio stated, "I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site." He also commended the prime ministers for their decision to pursue peace through dialogue.
The agreement marks a significant step towards easing tensions in the region as both nations prepare to engage in further discussions aimed at resolving longstanding issues.
