Samsung Electronics and Corning Incorporated have announced that the Galaxy S25 Edge will feature Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. This new glass ceramic offers advanced protection while maintaining a thin device form factor. The collaboration aims to combine Samsung's processing technologies with Corning's glass technology to enhance the durability of the device.
Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, "Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance as our slimmest Galaxy S series device yet." He emphasized the importance of developing a display material that is both thin and strong.
The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 includes crystals within its glass matrix to improve durability and crack deflection capabilities. Corning's ion exchange process fortifies this material further, enhancing its strength while maintaining optical transparency.
Andrew Beck, Vice President and General Manager at Corning Gorilla Glass, remarked, "With Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, we’ve achieved a remarkable combination of thinness and strength."
The launch event for the Galaxy S25 Edge will be livestreamed on Samsung’s YouTube channel on May 13 at 9 a.m. KST.
Corning is known for its innovations in materials science over its 170-year history. It applies expertise in various scientific fields to develop products that transform industries.
