Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs, Troy Fitrell, is on a commercial diplomacy trip to Conakry, Guinea, and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The visit from May 7 to 14 aims to boost U.S. trade and investment in the region.
In Guinea, Fitrell will engage with Guinean Prime Minister Oury and representatives from the U.S. private sector. Discussions will focus on the impact of U.S. investments in mining, transportation, and digital sectors while exploring new commercial opportunities for American businesses.
In Abidjan, Fitrell's agenda includes emphasizing strong U.S.-Africa commercial ties through high-level engagements. On May 12-13, he will attend the Africa CEO Forum as a distinguished guest. There, he will participate in a strategic roundtable on development finance and deliver an address on the U.S. government’s approach to Africa.
On May 14, Fitrell will join business leaders at the AmCham Business Summit at the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan. He is set to deliver a keynote address unveiling the State Department’s new commercial diplomacy strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa and formally launch the Commercial Dialogue of the U.S.-Cote d’Ivoire Commercial and Investment Partnership. Additionally, he will oversee the signing of several new U.S. business deals.
This trip is part of ongoing efforts by the State Department to strengthen trade and investment ties with Africa under America First Trade Policy.
