Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory Day for World War II, commemorating the Allied Powers' victory over national socialism and fascism in Europe. President Donald J. Trump issued a proclamation to honor this significant event, celebrating "the unmatched might, strength, and power of the American Armed Forces" and reaffirming the commitment to protect liberty against all threats.

Reflecting on the past, President Trump recalled the United States' entry into World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He acknowledged that more than 250,000 Americans lost their lives in this conflict. "Today and every day," he stated, "we pay tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their Nation, their liberty, and the survival of Western civilization."

May 8, 1945 marked Germany's unconditional surrender to the Allies. The president emphasized that this date serves as a reminder of why peace must be pursued through strength. He reiterated his commitment to ending foreign wars and preventing further loss of life: "We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars we end — and my proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker."

The proclamation extends gratitude to every member of what is termed as "the Greatest Generation" who fought for freedom overseas. President Trump concluded with a renewed pledge to ensure safety, security, prosperity, and freedom for America and beyond.

The document was signed by President Donald J. Trump on May 7th.
