Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of Andrew Morlet as Senior Advisor for Circular Economy. Morlet will assist in creating a new Circular Economy Innovation Hub within the bank's Chief Sustainability Officer Organisation. This move is part of Standard Chartered's strategy to expand its Innovation Hub approach, which focuses on sustainability areas with high potential for growth.

The Circular Economy Hub will join four existing hubs: Adaptation Finance, Nature Finance, Carbon Markets, and Blended Finance. The goal is to identify and develop opportunities that minimize environmental impact and enhance understanding of circular economy financing opportunities.

Morlet brings experience from his previous role as CEO at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, where he was instrumental in promoting the circular economy globally. Marisa Drew, Chief Sustainability Officer at Standard Chartered, expressed enthusiasm about Morlet joining the team: "We’re thrilled to welcome Andrew as we expand our Innovation Hub model in response to growing demand for standardisation, policy enablement, financial solutions and expertise in the circular economy."

Andrew Morlet commented on his new role: "I’m delighted to join Standard Chartered to establish the Circular Economy Innovation Hub... helping its clients, partners, and the broader market unlock the multi-trillion-dollar value creation opportunity that the circular economy is widely recognised to represent."

A circular economy focuses on keeping products and materials in use through design improvements for repair, reuse, recycling, and nature-positive solutions. In sectors like Metals and Mining, interest is growing in closed-loop recycling systems due to their financial benefits.
