The U.S. Mission to Pakistan has issued a security alert following reports of military strikes by India into Pakistan. The situation is described as evolving, and the mission is actively monitoring developments. The alert reminds U.S. citizens of the existing "Do Not Travel" advisory for areas near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to terrorism risks and potential armed conflict. Additionally, there is a general "Reconsider Travel" advisory for Pakistan.
Airspace closures have been reported, resulting in numerous flight cancellations. U.S. citizens are advised to leave areas of active conflict if it is safe or otherwise shelter in place. Updates will be communicated through the embassy's message system, and citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for timely information.
U.S. citizens are urged to exercise caution, review personal security plans, monitor local media, maintain a low profile, carry identification, and cooperate with authorities. The Country Security Report for Pakistan should also be reviewed.
