Researchers from Swansea University have been recognized by Health and Care Research Wales. The organization named three individuals as Senior Research Leaders, acknowledging their significant contributions to health and care research. These leaders include Professor Deborah Fitzsimmons, Professor Richard Fry, and Professor Rhiannon Owen.

The distinction of Senior Research Leader is given to those with a "track record of developing researchers and building Wales’ research capacity and capability, as well as integrating patient and public involvement in research," according to Health and Care Research Wales. The leaders, supported by the Health and Care Research Wales Faculty, will engage in various activities such as participating in funding panels, boards, and committees.

Gareth Cross, Deputy Director of Science, Research and Evidence at the Welsh Government, commented on the selection process. "The panel was very impressed with the upward trajectory of the Welsh research environment; several of the panel members had sat on previous Senior Research Leader award panels and noted that great strides were being made in this respect. The breadth of applications was outstanding," he said.

He added, "The Senior Research Leaders’ expertise and dedication will be instrumental in fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence within our research community, and we look forward to seeing the valuable contributions they will make over the next three years."
