The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala has announced that representatives from the Regional Federal Benefits Office will be visiting Guatemala City to provide services related to U.S. Social Security benefits. The visit is scheduled from May 19 to 22, 2025.

Services will be offered at INGUAT (Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo), located at 7a. Avenida 1-17, Zone 4, First Floor. The office hours are from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Appointments are not needed, though visitors should be prepared for potential wait times.

For those applying for Social Security benefits, essential documents include an original and a copy of the birth certificate and passport. Applicants for auxiliary benefits or survivor’s benefits should also bring the marriage certificate and/or the spouse’s death certificate.

Applicants under age 12 looking for a Social Security Number Card need to bring a copy of their valid U.S. passport and either a Consular Report of Birth Abroad or original U.S. birth certificate, along with a completed form SS-5FS if registered after age five. Applicants over age 12 need similar documentation along with proof of residency abroad for all years lived overseas.

An in-person interview for Social Security Number Card applicants is mandatory.

The U.S. Embassy provides contact options for further assistance. The U.S. Citizens Services Navigator and the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs can be reached at 1-888-407-4747 from the U.S. and Canada, or at 1-202-501-4444 from other countries.
