During the closing ceremony of English Week 2025 in Djibouti, CDA Snipes emphasized the significance of English proficiency as more than just an academic skill. Snipes addressed the Honorable Minister of Education and Vocational Training, alongside ambassadors, teachers, students, and other distinguished attendees, praising students from across Djibouti for their effort and courage in embracing English.
Snipes conveyed admiration for the dedication demonstrated by participants, describing their learning as a strategic investment in the future. He noted, “Whether they aspire to work in international business, launch startups, study abroad, or engage in diplomacy, English will help them communicate across borders and compete on a global scale.”
Teachers were acknowledged for their crucial role in fostering students’ skills, with Snipes stating, “Through their guidance and support, they are preparing their students to succeed in a changing world.”
Highlighting the role of the U.S. Embassy, Snipes mentioned their initiatives in supporting English education across Djibouti. He linked their efforts to broader national development goals, saying, “These initiatives are open and accessible to all, and we are committed to ensuring they continue to reach people with the drive to learn.”
Snipes also mentioned the embassy's collaboration with the Ministry of Education, particularly in teacher training and textbook development, reflecting the partnership between the two entities. He concluded by encouraging students to persist in their English studies, quoting BB King: “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
