The Government of Guatemala, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, has concluded a joint cybersecurity review of Guatemalan government networks. The review underscores the ongoing cooperation and shared commitment between the two nations to bolster Guatemala’s digital infrastructure and protect critical assets.

Conducted in a spirit of partnership, the review aimed to strengthen the cyber defenses of both the United States and Guatemala, thereby contributing to global cybersecurity. During the evaluation, the joint team discovered the presence of an advanced persistent threat group, APT-15. Known by other names such as Vixen Panda, Nickel, and Nylon Typhoon, this group is associated with China and has been linked to intrusions into government organizations globally, focusing particularly on Central and South America.

The identification of APT-15 highlights the shifting landscape of cyber threats and the critical importance of international collaboration to combat these challenges. The governments of Guatemala and the United States remain committed to addressing these issues to ensure the security and resilience of their digital infrastructures.
