Cairo, Egypt – April 29, 2025 – The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has announced the renewal of its partnership with Egypt’s Society for Culture and Development (ESCD). The agreement extends support for the American Corner at the Maadi Public Library for an additional two years, building on a collaboration that has spanned 16 years.
At the signing ceremony, U.S. Embassy Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy Ruben Harutunian emphasized the goals of the partnership, stating, “This MoU is a clear articulation of the United States’ desire to expand meaningful engagement with the Egyptian public, particularly its youth. By continuing our investment in programs that promote themes like American excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation, digital skills development, and English language education, we are investing in a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for both our nations and people.”
The American Corner at the Maadi Public Library, established in 2009, serves as an active center for youth engagement. It provides English-language and skill-building programming and acts as a venue for experiencing American culture. Activities at the American Corner include film discussions, coffee with diplomats, and cultural celebrations.
Visitors are offered free access to programs that focus on women’s empowerment, professional development, and digital literacy, among other topics. The American Corner has received nearly 10,000 visitors in the past two years and has conducted over 400 programs for more than 14,000 participants, both in-person and online.
