The Learned Society of Wales has announced the election of seven new Fellows from Swansea University. These individuals join a distinguished group of over 700 Fellows representing various fields such as sciences, humanities, arts, and social sciences. The inclusion of the new Fellows recognizes their expertise and leadership within academia, public service, health, and the broader civic and cultural spheres of Wales.

The Society aims to utilize the expertise of its Fellows to advocate for research, offer insight, and encourage learning and discussion. The recently appointed Swansea University Fellows are:

- Dr. Mahaboob Basha, External Relations and Engagement Manager, Faculty of Science & Engineering

- Dr. Zubeyde Bayram-Weston, Senior Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Science

- Professor Delyth James, Professor in Pharmacy & Behavioural Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Science

- Professor Emeritus Arthur Lees, Faculty of Science & Engineering

- Professor Rhiannon Owen, Professor of Statistics, Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Science

- Sîan Williams, Head of Cultural Collections Engagement and Curation

- Dr. Yan Wu, Associate Professor in Media and Communication, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences

Professor Hywel Thomas, President of the Learned Society of Wales, expressed his thoughts on the significance of the new Fellows' expertise, stating: “We face a huge number of challenges, from climate change to political turmoil to emerging health threats. The answer to so many of these problems will be found in research and robust civic institutions. That expertise is evident in our new Fellows. I’m delighted to welcome them to the Learned Society of Wales.”
