Samsung Electronics announced an upcoming feature for select Galaxy A series devices that will allow users to access AI assistant functionality through the side button of their phones. The feature, originally available on the Galaxy S series, will bring the popular aspect to more users in line with Samsung’s goal of making AI experiences broadly accessible.
The update will enable Galaxy A series users to activate Google’s AI-powered assistant, Gemini, by pressing and holding the side button. Samsung's Awesome Intelligence feature on devices such as the Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A26 5G already offers select AI-powered functionalities to users. This latest software update further simplifies the process by providing more intuitive ways for users to perform everyday tasks.
Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office at Samsung Electronics, said, “Samsung and Google have been working together to deliver seamless, intuitive, and meaningful AI experiences, making the latest technology more accessible for more users. We’re excited that Galaxy A series users will now be able to activate Gemini faster and more naturally through a simple gesture that brings intelligent support into the flow of daily tasks.”
The feature will allow users to execute tasks such as checking schedules, finding nearby restaurants, and getting gift recommendations using voice commands. Tasks across various apps, including Samsung, Google, and some third-party platforms, can be performed with a single command. For example, users can identify a dinner location on Google Maps and share the address via Messages without typing.
Starting in early May, the software update will be available globally for select Galaxy A series models. The rollout underscores Samsung's focus on combining performance and value within the Galaxy A series, enhancing the smartphone experience through easier access to features like Gemini.
