Today, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Peace Corps formalized their partnership with a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement underscores their mutual dedication to enhancing English language education and bolstering the professional growth of educators within the Kyrgyz Republic. The MoU aims to strengthen their ongoing collaboration by increasing the presence of English Education Volunteers in the nation's educational institutions.
Hoyt Brian Yee, Country Director of Peace Corps Kyrgyz Republic, expressed the shared goals by stating, “This agreement represents a shared vision between Peace Corps and the Ministry of Education and Science to support teachers and expand opportunities for students through the English language."
The Peace Corps has maintained a presence in the Kyrgyz Republic since 1993, during which over 1,350 volunteers have participated in various initiatives. Presently, there are 44 Peace Corps English Education Volunteers active in schools throughout the country, along with four Peace Corps Eco-Tourism Response Volunteers who assist local partners in promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing their English communication abilities.
