Thank you, Chair.
The United States expresses its ongoing commitment to improving the rights and well-being of Indigenous women and girls. Ensuring these women have access to opportunities and protections is a key priority.
A central element of the approach is economic empowerment. Initiatives supported during President Trump's first Administration focused on economic development and entrepreneurship among Indigenous women, through increasing access to capital and aiding small businesses. These measures aim to help them achieve financial independence and boost community prosperity.
Addressing safety concerns is equally important. President Trump, during his first term, implemented measures to tackle violence against Indigenous women and girls, supporting law enforcement and justice initiatives to safeguard their communities.
An example of current actions is the Department of Justice’s Operation Not Forgotten, which heightens FBI involvement, including personnel and technology, in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Tribal law enforcement. The initiative targets unresolved violent crimes, especially those involving missing and murdered Indigenous persons (MMIP).
Additionally, United States Attorneys’ Offices and the MMIP Regional Outreach Program are focused on prosecuting violent crimes in Indian country, reflecting the Administration's dedication to accountability and justice for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The United States continues these efforts to support and promote the rights and well-being of Indigenous women.
Thank you.
