U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir is set to complete her tenure by the end of April, marking the end of a dynamic period in the U.S.-Indonesia relationship. Her term has been characterized by a strong partnership and various joint achievements.

“It has been an immense honor to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia,” Ambassador Lakhdhir stated. “I have been inspired by the creativity and resilience of the Indonesian people, and I am proud of the many ways Indonesians and Americans are working together on shared challenges to make our nations safer, stronger, and more prosperous. I greatly appreciate the warm hospitality and friendship I felt here.”

Throughout her service, Ambassador Lakhdhir has worked to enhance bilateral cooperation in education, trade, defense, and security. She recently hosted a gala concert to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the U.S.-Indonesia relationship.

Before departing, Ambassador Lakhdhir plans to meet with Indonesian counterparts and partners to discuss shared progress and future opportunities, reaffirming the U.S. commitment to the relationship. Following her departure, Heather C. Merritt, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, will take over as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.

The Ambassador has engaged with local figures, including meeting with Prabowo Subianto at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and participating in an EducationUSA Fair interview with journalists.
