Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently held a conversation with Prime Minister Stuart Young of Trinidad and Tobago. According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the call aimed to reinforce the existing U.S.-Trinidad and Tobago bilateral relationship, highlighting shared objectives in the areas of regional energy security and economic cooperation.
During the discussion, Secretary Rubio emphasized the significance of energy security for Trinidad and Tobago’s prosperity and economy. He assured that the implications of sanctions on Venezuela's Maduro regime do not reflect the U.S. relationship with Trinidad and Tobago and the importance placed on it. Rubio praised Prime Minister Young for his strategic leadership in the energy sector and both officials agreed to collaborate closely to develop solutions aligning U.S. objectives regarding Venezuela without negatively impacting Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister Young expressed his government's dedication to responsible energy development and regional security collaboration. Secretary Rubio affirmed the United States' commitment to supporting democratic governance and promoting long-term stability throughout the Caribbean region.
