The United States Embassy in Serbia has announced the Fulbright Non-degree Visiting Researcher Program for Doctoral Students for the 2026-2027 academic year. This program offers Serbian doctoral students an opportunity to conduct research related to their PhD thesis at a U.S. university for a period of six to nine months. "The Fulbright Non-degree Visiting Researcher Program for Doctoral Students enables young professionals from Serbia who are already enrolled in a PhD program at a Serbian university to conduct research at a U.S. university related to their PhD thesis," said an official statement.

The program is open to doctoral students enrolled at Serbian universities in various fields, including Agriculture, American History, Computer Science, and more. Participants are selected through an open, merit-based competition. It offers tuition, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and airfare. "This prestigious award covers tuition and fees at a U.S. university, a monthly living stipend, health insurance, and international airfare," according to the announcement.

Eligibility criteria require applicants to be Serbian citizens, and they must not have dual citizenship with the U.S. or be U.S. permanent residents. They must hold at least a master's degree, be enrolled in a PhD program in Serbia, and have English proficiency. "Applicants must be citizens of the Republic of Serbia. Permanent U.S. residents and persons with dual (Serbian and U.S.) citizenship are ineligible," noted the embassy.

The selection process includes a pre-screening of applications, followed by interviews conducted by a committee of Embassy representatives and scholars. Final nominees are subject to approval by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Applications must be completed online and include three reference letters, academic records, and standardized test results such as the TOEFL. The deadline for submitting applications is June 2, 2025. The online application and detailed instructions are available through the Fulbright program page. Applicants are cautioned that any submissions outside the official system will not be considered.
