Sean O’Neill, the Senior Bureau Official for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, plans to visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and Hawaii between April 16 and April 25, 2025. This trip involves significant diplomatic engagements across the region.

In Vietnam, O’Neill will engage with senior government officials in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to emphasize "the shared interests that form a basis for our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership." He will highlight the achievements since diplomatic relations were established 30 years ago and discuss future opportunities related to security, prosperity, immigration, and trade between the two nations.

During his visit to Siem Reap, Cambodia, O’Neill will co-chair the 37th U.S.-ASEAN Dialogue with Cambodian Secretary of State for ASEAN, Kung Phoak. He aims to express "the United States’ support for Malaysia’s ASEAN chair year" and explore ways the U.S.-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership can promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region, enhancing safety, security, and prosperity.

In Tokyo, O'Neill's agenda includes meetings with Japanese government officials to discuss strengthening bilateral alliances and economic partnerships.

His travel concludes in Honolulu, where discussions with U.S. military officials are scheduled regarding the military presence in the Indo-Pacific region.
