U.S. Consul General Antoinette Hurtado made a visit to the Bermuda Airport Authority to discuss agreements between U.S. agencies and the Airport Authority. These agreements involve ensuring the safety and efficiency of travel for passengers heading to the U.S.
A spokesperson from the Airport Authority explained that their role includes operating and maintaining U.S. assets in Bermuda for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Additionally, they host radar equipment for NASA at Cooper’s Island and manage the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agreement, which offers Preclearance at the L.F. Wade International Airport. During her visit, Consul General Hurtado toured the facilities including Air Traffic Control, Air Traffic Engineering, and the Bermuda Weather Service.
“Meeting with the Bermuda Airport Authority and observing its facilities and operations reinforced our close cooperation with Bermuda on security, aviation, and technology issues,” Consul General Hurtado remarked. “I look forward to continuing and strengthening that cooperation.”
BAA CEO Lester Nelson expressed satisfaction in welcoming Consul General Hurtado, stating, “We have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the U.S. Consulate and U.S. agencies.”
