Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono to discuss key aspects of the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The meeting highlighted mutual interests in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Both officials explored ways to enhance defense and security cooperation. They addressed the significance of freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea, emphasizing adherence to international law. Secretary Rubio reiterated the importance of the U.S. campaign to apply maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to limit its revenue for terrorism, ballistic missile production, and other destabilizing actions.

During the discussions, Secretary Rubio addressed U.S. reciprocal tariffs on Indonesia, expressing appreciation for Indonesia's push to implement economic reforms for a fairer trade relationship. The Secretary also thanked Foreign Minister Sugiono for facilitating the return of Indonesia’s deportees from the United States.
