John Degory, Deputy Chief of Mission | U.S. Embassy in Fiji, Kiribati, Nauro, Tonga, and Tuvalu

On April 17, U.S. Ambassador to Fiji, Marie C. Damour, presented 14 laptops and a high-tech storage cabinet to the American Corner Suva, situated at Carnegie Library. This gesture underscores the commitment of the U.S. Embassy to enhance prosperity in Fiji and the United States.

Ambassador Damour stated, "The American Corner is more than just a space with cool technology. It's a place where people can meet and exchange ideas, express their opinions, and develop new skills and make new friends. This donation, paired with our high-speed Starlink internet, will enable even more interactive learning experiences. The U.S. Embassy is committed to advancing opportunities for education and innovation in Fiji, and today’s donation of 14 laptops is just the latest example of that commitment."

American Corners provide open-access community spaces with resources supported by the U.S. government. These spaces include technology, internet access, and dynamic programming. American Corner Suva serves as a learning and connection hub in the city, with over 2,500 visitors having engaged in various activities since its inception.

Throughout the year, American Corner Suva conducts programming for schools and the public. Partnering with the U.S. Embassy, Bridger Impact offers workshops on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), leadership, improving English-teaching skills, digital literacy, and essential soft skills.

The ongoing support from the U.S. Embassy for initiatives such as American Corner Suva demonstrates America's dedication to enhancing economic opportunities, self-reliance, and reinforcing strong U.S.-Pacific relationships. American Corner fosters shared prosperity and security goals by promoting practical skills and entrepreneurial thinking.
